The Cessna towplane is in the hangar for annual inspection. We picked this week due to usually low customer flight activity, and the shortest soaring days. She might not be back flying for this weekend, so please call to check before driving out to fly. We expect her to be back in service by Jan. 28.

KL71 Airport NOTAM on 12/14/09 – until further notice.

Construction is underway on the north side of midfield, to install a new wind-tee and segmented circle. Construction will also install PAPI lights alongside the main 24/6 runway, but the runways and taxiways will be OPEN during the work. Be extra vigilant for service vehicles driving about and forgetting this is an airport!

January 23, 2010

The PAPI light boxes are installed wider than the main runway lights, and there are additional light boxes before each threshold about 85 feet, in each overrun of the main runway. Walk the field before launching and intending to use an overrun for a departure ‘alternate landing area’ to be aware of these new FAA financed obstructions.

President's Day – we will board and taxi train The Antelope Valley Guide Dog puppies, in our Cessna towplane.

These pups are learning to be polite in public, accompany people and be exposed to many different social experiences. Using planes for transportation is one experience these pups get to see before adulthood and beginning formal training for their service duties. The pups and raisers will walk about the airport grounds, practice their obedience commands, walk on many textures of surfaces (sand/gravel/stone/concrete/asphalt/tile/carpet), see other pups and the airport dogs and cats, hear noisy machines, and lay quietly while their handlers have a bite of lunch in Foxy’s Café. If the weather is nasty, the event will reschedule for February.

Caracole is typically open Wednesday to Sunday, and holidays.

Our answering machine is set to answer after six rings. Please give it all five and a half rings, to give us a chance to reach the phone from the other side of the hangar, or from under the belly of a glider. You have the option to hang up before six, if you don’t want to speak to the machine.

We may not have changed the outgoing message on the machine for several days. But we do download the messages every day.

If we are going to be gone for any unexpected reason, the phone machine WILL be updated, and list our returning date for normal glider services. The phone machine is more current than this web page for urgent messages. When traveling on safaris, the phone is forwarded to a cell number for off site response.

We have fun both at home and away from home.
We hope to have you join us soon.
